Kansas Contractor License Classifications

Kansas Contractor License Classifications

Just like the states of Illinois and Indiana, Kansas does not directly manage the licensing process for contractors and issue licenses. Instead, an applicant may receive a Kansas contractor’s license at a local level, via local cities and counties. There is also a requirement to register with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office as long as someone wants to start contracting business.

Regardless of which body issues the contractor’s license, it is still quite important to specify which kind of license you need. In addition, one will need to learn about the license classifications before completing the license application.

In order to obtain your contracting license in Kansas the first step you’ll need to take is to decide what type of contractor’s license you’d like to obtain. A general contractor’s license allows you to work on any type of contracting including remodeling, developments, and other general contracting duties without any limits.

Just like the states of Illinois and Indiana, Kansas does not directly manage the licensing process for contractors and issue licenses.

In the state of Kansas, there is no state level licensure for contractors and local counties are responsible for that. For example, if someone is from Lawrence, he/she will need to apply to the Douglas County. In similar fashion, a person from Wichita will need to apply to the Sedgwick County.

Given these points, it is interesting to know that local counties, as a rule, have various classifications for contractors. Below you can find the contractor license classifications that major cities and counties use.
